WCG mean World Cyber Games

The World Cyber Games (WCG) is an international e-sports event (or "Cyber Games Festival") operated by Korean company International Cyber Marketing and backed by Samsung and, since 2006, Microsoft. [1] The official motto of WCG is "Beyond the Game."The World Cyber Games were set up in 2000 with the first festival being held in 2001. The festival is influenced by the Olympic Games with a players village for competitors and since 2004 a different host city every year.WCG is the largest gaming festival celebrated once a year. More than one million visitors come and visit every year. It unites gamers from all over the world to allow players to enjoy and respect the gaming environment. Each participating country will conduct preliminary rounds before sending the finest gamers to represent them in this major event. Over 700 players from over 70 countries faced off in Seattle, 2007. Spike TV is the WCG's official media partner.World Cyber Games (WCG) is the world's largest and most recognized gaming festival. This year, more than 800 of the world's best cyber-athletes from over 70 countries will be arriving in Cologne, Germany to compete.Unless our six national cyber-athletes manage to raise S$5,000 each by September, they will not be able to represent Singapore in Cologne even though they won that opportunity by qualifying at the Singapore National finals.Unlike other countries like China and South Korea, Singapore has yet to recognize cyber-gaming as a national sport. Therefore these cyber-athletes find a lack of structured support even though some of them have performed consistently well on the international stage. In a last ditch attempt to participate and win in what has been hailed by some as the equivalent of the cyber Olympics, our national cyber-athletes have decided to personally raise the $30,000 needed to cover airfares, accommodation and tournament entrance fees. Inspired by their maturity and determination, (Singapore) Cybersports and Online Gaming Association (SCOGA) has decided to help these cyber-athletes because one of the cornerstone of our mission is to “achieve international success and recognition for Singapore in competitive gaming”.

Give our cyber champs an opportunity to win a medal for Singapore at the International WCG Finals, the ‘cyber Olympics’!The (Singapore) Cybersports and Online Gaming Association, more commonly known as SCOGA, was setup to develop local gaming communities, through education, to achieve international success and recognition for Singapore in competitive gaming. In what has been hailed as the equivalent of the cyber Olympics, some of Singapore's best cybergamers will have to fund their own way to represent Singapore at the World Cyber Games (WCG) finals in Cologne, Germany in November 2008. Competing against 800 gamers from 70 countries, the top three winners of the national WCG rounds earn the right to play for their country in their respective games at the world finals, held in a different city each year*.At least 3 of our Singaporean champs stand a good chance to win a medal at Cologne because they have proven themselves on the regional and international stage before, time and again. However, due to lack of sponsorships, they have to fund their own way to Cologne*.We feel that this is for Singapore’s glory especially if they return with a medal and appeal to you to help us raise a total of S$30,000 to fly 6 Singaporean champions to represent Singapore in Cologne. In case our target is not reached, we feel that 3 of these gamers have a good medal chance and priority will be given to them to fly – still, S$15,000 will be needed for air tickets, accomodations, and fees. We appeal to your generousity, and every dollar counts.Air ticket prices increase with everyday drawing nearer to the international finals and our deadline to raise this money is in September so that we can book the tickets in time.
