First came the idea. But a great idea deserves a great name. The very first name of the lollipop was GOL, Spanish for "goal", due to the lollipop's resemblance to a football. But Enric Bernat was not totally convinced with this name and decided to resort to an advertising agency. The outcome of several brainstorming sessions came up with three options: PALS, ROLS and CHUPS. Enric Bernat finally chose "CHUPS". However, the name story does not end here. In order to advertise their lollipops, the young entrepreneur and his colleagues created a song that was played on the radio. It went something like this.... English Get something sweet to lickLick lick lick a Chups It's round and lasts so long Lick lick lick a Chups It's on a stick So you stay clean And if you want to get a mouthful Lick lick lick a Chups... Due to the catchy chorus, young consumers were soon flocking to candy stores and sking for "Chupa Chups®" instead of the actual "Chups®". Ever aware of his market, Enric Bernat decided to go along with this involuntary change and following the philosophy of "If you can't beat them, join them", re-christened his product "Chupa Chups®". The Chupa Chups® brand name was finally registered in 1962 and in 1964 the company adopted the same name, eventually changing from Granja Asturias S.A. to Chupa Chups, S.A. Once the brand name was changed to Chupa Chups®, the jingle was adapted accordingly
